Exploring Ideas Through Stories.

Hi there! I'm Yash.

Subtle Digressions is a snapshot of my existence as I follow my curiosities. A one-man labor of love, I write essays at the intersection of literature, history, and philosophy—exploring ideas through stories, both real and fictional.

What to expect?

  • My main essays explore an idea (or multiple ideas) by pulling threads from literature, history, and philosophy. One of these essays has been featured on the front page of Hacker News!

  • In my informal essays (or, personal digressions), I write casual thoughts on books I’ve been reading, essays and blogs I read that month, writerly ramblings, and maybe some personal updates.

  • Sometimes, I share fiction like The Dream Catcher’s Diary and Waiting For What Never Was.

Who am I?

I live and work in Indiana (USA) as a research engineer in machine learning and data science in the field of bioinformatics in an academic research center. But this blog is not about that!

There is another half of me who loves literature and writing, stories and storytelling. I didn’t study literature or creative writing formally in college so this blog is my attempt at doing so in my spare time—mostly late evenings, early mornings, and weekends.

When some things are better said using a visual medium, I create video essays on my YouTube channel.

What else?

That’s it! If you like what you read here, consider subscribing to support my work and receive new posts directly in your inbox.
